A 21-year-old man who raped a female student of the College of Education, Ikere- Ekiti on September 17, has turned himself in, the police said yesterday. The suspect was said to have committed the crime about 8.00 p.m. while conveying the victim, who was returning from a hospital where she had gone for treatment. She was at the time the only passenger in the mini bus known as Akoto.Ojolo, as he was simply identified, the Police said, suddenly changed direction into a nearby bush where he raped the student. The incident caused a fight between students of the college and commercial drivers at Ikere Ekiti. The uproar, which resulted in the destruction of properties, led the college's management to close down the school indefinitely. The Police Public Relation Officer, Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed that the Police had detained the suspect. A 19-year-old teenage girl, Sarai Rodriguez-Miranda from Indiana, is wanted on an arrest warrant after allegedly trying to kill her 11-week-old niece by poisoning her bottled breast milk. The Cross River State Police Command has arrested one Peter Bishung for allegedly defrauding over 30 people of more than N6million. It was gathered that Mr. Bishung, who posed as a medical doctor had been hanging around the Ministry of Health headquarters premises at the Michael Ani secretariat in Calabar where he may have gotten wind of information to swindle unsuspecting contractors of cash. He is said to have allegedly posed as a middle man for contracts especially for the 1.5 million dollars world bank health grant to revitalize the Primary Health care system in the state. Mr. Bishung is suspected to have defrauded about 32 people of over N6 million promising them that they will get contracts. He is said to have collected a minimum of NGN200,000 from each company profile collected.
